Antihypertensive
Mannitol on ocular tissues, by maintaining a high plasma-atrial fluid osmotic pressure difference, induces a shift of atrial fluid into the vasculature. At the same time, the vitreous body dehydrates and decreases in volume. The result is a simultaneous reduction in intravitreal pressure, intraocular pressure, and intraorbital pressure, presenting a powerful hypotensive effect.
Diuretic
The diuretic effect of D Mannitol Powder also contributes to the above effects. Under the influence of mannitol, a large amount of hypotonic urine can be discharged, the plasma is more concentrated, and the osmotic pressure difference is further increased, thus enhancing the antihypertensive effect of mannitol.
Anti-inflammatory, Soothing
D Mannitol Powder can help soothe sensitive skin by reducing inflammatory skin reactions, redness, and irritation. It is also used to soothe discomfort caused by allergies or skin problems.
Moisturising and Nourishing
Because mannitol contains more hydroxyl groups, can be combined with water in the form of hydrogen bonding, moisturizing effect, so it is often added to some skin care products.
Anti-aging
Peroxynitrite anion is a combination of superoxide radicals and nitroso ions, but also a common free radical in the body, this free radical is associated with pigmentation. D Mannitol Powder is conducive to skin conditioning and K decline, skin allergies also have a certain degree of inhibition.
Applications:
In Pharmaceutical:
D Mannitol Powder is a commonly used clinical drug, as an API, mostly used as a dehydrating agent, diuretic with cerebral vasodilator, or antihypertensive. It can treat cerebral oedema caused by various reasons, such as traumatic brain injury, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, and so on. In addition to this, mannitol can also be used as a pharmaceutical excipient, as an excipient for tablets, and as a diluent for solids and liquids.
In the Food Field:
Mannitol is internationally recognized as safe for use in food. The U.S. FDA Food Additive Regulation (21st Edition 180.25) approves mannitol for use in food. The Joint Food and Agriculture Organisation/World Health Organisation Committee for the Export of Food Additives (JECFA) has also verified the safety of mannitol and has agreed that it can be taken in a single dose of 0-50mg/kg.
Mannitol is listed in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia/Natural Medicines Chapter, as well as in pharmacopeias around the world, including the Food Chemistry Handbook (FCC). In the Chinese Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB2760), D Mannitol Powder can be used in confectionery, added as a sweetener, emulsifier, bulking agent, stabilizer, or thickener as required by production.
Other Fields:
Mannitol is a typical polyol whose hydroxyl group can participate in many chemical reactions under certain conditions. Therefore it is often used as an important intermediate in the synthesis of many organic chemicals. For example, in fine chemicals, mannitol can be used to produce polyethers, which are used in the manufacture of high-temperature resistant foams for thermal insulation and fire protection. Mannitol polyether foam is of excellent quality and can withstand temperatures up to 180°C, which is incomparable to polyether foams produced by other polyols, and can be used for insulation of special pipelines.
